In particular it notes that: (Jeff Miller) says, "our data show that increasing investment in biking and walking could lead to more people biking and walking. The more people bike and walk, the safer it is and the healthier the community. It's a virtuous cycle." Frank, As you requested, here is a copy of the latest Bike Route Map with no aerials. When I took the aerials out, the file shrinks from 53MB to 1.2MB! I've copied everyone else on this map. Frank is planning on riding the routes we've chosen to field verify them and compile areas that may be steep, have a preferred direction, one-way streets, areas with gravel, poor road conditions, etc. Please, if you have time, print this out and do the same. When I receive enough feedback or we ride all of the routes, we'll schedule a meeting to compile our additions. Again, if you need a printed copy of this map, let me know. I can print a few at work, but not too many. Frank, Jim Rye, Will Ravenscroft, Hugh Kierig may also be able to help with printing. Sidewalks

Bicycle Board Members, Please see attached flyer. Go to the Public Forum January 28, 6:30-8:30 PM at South Middle School. The Pedestrian Safety Board has been working on improving the pedestrian infrastructure for Morgantown. They developed a Pedestrian Safety Plan, which focuses on improving the walkability of Morgantown. Copies of the draft plan are available at the bottom of the following link: http://www.morgantown.com/ped-safety-board.htm . The more we move people out of their individual cars and on to the sidewalks, bicycles, PRT, and busses, the safer and healthier will be our city and its residents. We need resources to make that happen. They have asked the Morgantown City Council to pass a Walkway, Walkway Lighting, and Traffic Calming Fee, which will be $1 annually per frontage foot of their property. Thus, if one has a lot that is 50 feet wide, they will pay $50 annually. These monies will amount to approximately $1,000,000 annually for sidewalks, lighting, and traffic calming. Their projections are that they need $32 million to address existing problems. The Morgantown City Council will probably vote on this fee in their February meeting. Generally, they are receptive to the issues and the fee, but the Pedestrian Safety Board needs support at the January 28 meeting to demonstrate to City Council that the Pedestrian Safety Plan has support. Bill Reger-Nash has four requests: 1) He would ask that you encourage others to attend the Public Hearing at South Middle School at 6:30 pm on January 28 2) Please sign the petition supporting the fee, which can be found at http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/mgwpedplan/ 3) Contact city council members asking them to support the Walkway, Walkway Lighting, and Traffic Calming Fee. Ideally they should be contacted prior to January 28. You qualify for the LCI seminar if you score better than 70 on the Written test and better than 85 on the Road test. I put the wrong scores in my first message. Also, see Matteo's message below. Hey guys, I've attached a link to a 4shared.com site where the latest Bike Route Map from January 7th is located. The consensus of the Bike Route Mapping committee was to locate 'points of interest' Please download this PDF, look at the yellow routes, and mark or decide where we should add symbols for sections of steep routes, gravel or poor road surfaces, one-way routes, or other concerns. If you need a printed version to markup, please let me know. I can't print too many at our office, but I can do a few. If there is a high demand for prints, I'll talk to Frank, Hugh, Jim Ryen, etc to get you a copy. I apologize for the large file size. If you need something smaller, let me know, and I'll reduce the resolution and zip it tonight or tomorrow. I would like to schedule a meeting next week to compile our changes. Thursday would work well for me. Once our changes are compiled, we'll meet with the Convention and Visitors Bureau. As Frank pointed out, they may need several months to produce our map once we give them our draft.
