Education Committee Members, Please thank Paul Becker for achieving an agreement with the Dominion Post to publish monthly, the last Thursday of each month, a bicycling education article. The first, Start pedaling for National Bike Month by yours truly appeared on page 1-D of today's paper. I also thought it was cool that today's Dominion Post advertised for the first time in all 35 years that we've been doing it, Appalachian Spring Spectacular bicycle ride which occurs this weekend. The Monongalia Bicycle Club and Country Roads Cyclists that plan, organize and accomplish it get the credit for that. The article is on page 4-C. bikemorgantown.com- On the home page, the link to Maps (and Blog) doesn't go anywhere. That's fine if there's nothing there yet. On all other live pages (which are just Calendar and About), the link to Maps goes here- http://maps.google.com/maps?tab=cl Which is fine I suppose, if that's what you want, but since it's not really part of the bikemorgantown.com site I would suggest at least opening it in another window. Same thing w/ the links under Morgantown >>> on the home page. They aren't part of bikemorgantown.com and should/could be opened in a separate window/tab. All the pages under the Courses >>> open in new windows. http://bikemorgantown.com/calendar/calendarinfo.html opens from a couple places. Looks like it comes from a separate place, in that it doesn't use the page template of most of the other pages, i.e. home, about, calendar. Frank you mentioned about being able to update the calendar and all that. It's an embedded google calendar, which means they can set it up so different folks can edit events in it. It's not too hard, Ryan and I have done it w/ a few calendars that he was trying to get setup. You can check this out by clicking on any of the links under Course >>> Confident City Cycling -> course date, etc. There. How's that? DOH recognizes that there is a need to provide more recognition to cyclists and pedestrian issues. They are proposing that as part of the second days breakout sessions that there be a "mobile laboratory" showing off the areas bicycle and pedestrian features and concerns. We would arrange for Mountain Line or the University to provide a van/small vehicle and the MPO or the Bike Board and or the Pedestrian Board could give a tour of the area. This tour should contrast where non-motorized modes are accommodated well and where they are not. They also may consider a breakout session where the Morgantown Cyclists and possibly the Parkersburg cyclists could discuss cycling issues if both groups are interested.
