Bumper Stickers

Bicycle Board Members, Thanks to Aira, I now have 1,000 Share the Road. It's the Law! bumper stickers in my living room. What should I do with them? I'm thinking, give a few to each of you at next Thursday's BB meeting; a few to each Traffic Commission member at next Wednesday's TC meeting; a hundred or so to Pathfinder and Wamsley Cycles; fifty or so to the Greater Morgantown Commerce and Visitor's Bureau. Who wants to take a bunch out to Greer Limestone and stick them on the back of limestone trucks? Longview trucks? Rt. 100 coal trucks? Other ideas? Jeff Mikorski (Acting City Manager as of tomorrow) volunteered to pass them out to City staff and council and make them available in the lobby of City Hall. Bicycle Board Members, Thanks to the Education Committee, gunnar, Betsy, Ryan, JR Petsko (photographer) and Gary Rodosta (designer) our first electronic billboard is up on Easton Hill heading out of town from the Mileground. This is the first of seven electronic billboards that the Education Committee and Gary are designing and planning to display around the City next Spring. MUTCD/ASHTO summary of bicycle-related signage

Hi BB, This is to close my action alert as discussed at the September 2, Bicycle Board Meeting. Attached are two documents. The first is the Authoritative Striping Guidelines document that was presented to the TC. The second is Sign Placement on shared-use paths. Both documents refer to the 2003 MUTCD that was/is still current. The first document also incorporates the 1999 AASHTO. The Striping Committee was comprised of Mark Wise (BOPARC), Don Spencer (City), Mike Breiding (Citizen), Christiaan Abildso (PSB), Ella Belling (MRTC), and me (BB), and ultimately came to this consensus about striping:/ / /Place a single, solid center line with arrows denoting travel direction on dangerous trail segments and at areas where pedestrians frequently enter the trail. / Based on personal observations, I feel this approach has been successful in helping to alter people's behavior. On another subject, if anyone is interested, I have the last revision of the Bicycle Parking Plan which may be of interest to those who want to get up to speed on what constitutes well-designed bicycle facilities. -Jonathan

MPO Conference Mobile Lab route

Bicycle Board Members, Following is the route proposed by the Pedestrian Safety Board for the MPO Conference Mobile Laboratory: Leave Hotel Morgan Up Beechurst Right on Patteson/705 to Willowdale Right on Willowdale Left on Irwin Left on Chestnut Ridge Left on Stewartstown Left into Suncrest Town Center Right onto 705 Right onto Mileground Continue to Willey Willey back to town. Please reply by 9/21 with any bicycling points along the route and their specific locations that we should indicate to the WVDOH and other participants that will be on the bus. These would be points that illustrate bicyclist needs and issues that are common throughout the state. We can suggest changes to the route. The mobile lab will be a small 24 passenger Mountain Line bus. We may be able to get the driver to stop at interesting locations along the route however the tour must fit in the 12:30 -1:50 time slot on 10/27. I will compile your recommendations and provide a script to Bill Austin by 9/24 unless one of you wants to volunteer to do that. Referring to the minutes (attached) of the last 2 BB meetings in which we brainstormed ideas of routes and things to show them might help you respond to this message. I attended the Ped meeting last night and the above was the consensus route for indicating pedestrian issues. Matthew Cross will be the pedestrian spokesperson on the bus.
