Hi Everyone, Ipad is back in business. Here are the action items: 197. Gunnar will reconvene the group who is working on the Walk/Bike Transit Map referred to in action item 194. 198. Andrew will seek out a first year WVU cycling student to get involved with the bike board. Gunnar "will hound" WVU cycling as well. :) 199. Damien will request a parking space and/or loading space on street in front of the Met once Traci gets event details about the Festival of Ideas (FOI) event on March 19th at the Met 200. Traci will find out if there will be a bus in front of the met and what exactly the plans are for the FOI event 201. Damien will ask Fred (with DOH?) if it's possible to put 'Welcome to Suncrest' signs on the same poles as the two BFC signs that were erected in Suncrest 202. Jonathan will photograph and send specs of the rack that's sitting at Positive Spin that's meant for Suncrest Middle/Matt Watson 203. Damien will find out if the city can transport the rack from PS to Suncrest Middle. 204. Frank will send someone Matt Watson's phone number (but we never decided who he would give it to) 205. Chip and Gunnar will reconvene parking committee to find the best place for two bike loops at the new farmer's market pavilion 206. Derek will email BB to see who will help him get photos at Suncrest Middle for the Saris bike corral opportunity 207. Frank will let Butch know if he needs him to provide information on informal group rides for the LAB 'success stories' application 208. Traci will scan the activities suggested by LAB for Bike to Work Day and email the bike board with the ones she thinks are most attainable and are a good fit for Morgantown Lots of action to be taken. Okay folks, Hope to see everyone tonight! Attached please find the January meeting minutes. If you need to have them printed out for whatever reason then do so. Everyone has had a chance to review them, we just need to accept them at the meeting. Below please find the agenda for tonight's meeting, I've also attached the file as well. ******************************* March Bike Board Meeting March 7, 2012 6:30pm - Morgantown Public Safety Building Open Action Items 124 - Andrew: Discuss the possibility of WVU becoming a Bicycle Friendly University with the SGA president and talk to WVU Cycling about serving on BB. 190 - Gunnar: Follow up with Jing and members involved in projects six & seven (GIS) about incorporating Vision 2000 into the MPO’s long range transportation plan. 194 - Jing: Follow up with mapping committee and Emily regarding next steps for the Walk Bike Transit Map. 195 - Frank: Will go back to the cost estimates calculated with Damien and add costs to items (on the Bicycle Plan) up to $100k for FY 2013-’14 and circulate to Damien for a sanity check. 196 - Gunnar: Follow up with Sean re. need for WVU cycling team liaison. All BB Members, *Can someone please take the lead on organizing the Black Bear photo for the Sarris contest?* I just need to move that off of my plate at least until after Wednesday. I would still be be open to actually taking the photo or bringing some props perhaps on Thursday or Friday, but I just don't have time until then. Jason from Black Bear requested that we *contact Mr. Sellaro* who owns/leases the property by asking: Can somebody from your board contact Jim Sellaro for permission? I will contact Jim and let him know to expect a call. He runs Sellaro Overhead Door service in Star City. Also, Damien Davis asked yesterday: Are you taking the lead on getting the photo taken at Black Bear? If so, will you *contact Aaron Stout* (412-287-1512). He is going to be managing the new location and is willing to help. He is working till 4:30, 5:00pm. Please call him after this time. Please let me know if you're acting on this to help us out! We are waiting on permission on several other requests made to the Sellaro family and don't wish to personally poke the hornet's nest further. Looks like Secretary LaHood is ditching AASHTO before leaving his post. By “playing it safe” and sticking with old-school engineering, U.S. DOT allowed streets to be unsafe for these vulnerable road users. But that could be changing. The bike-friendliest transportation secretary the country has ever seen told state transportation officials yesterday at AASHTO’s annual Washington conference that U.S. DOT was getting into the business of issuing its own design standards, instead of simply accepting the AASHTO guidelines. <http://dc.streetsblog.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/ray-aashto.jpg> LaHood told an audience of state transportation officials that the FHWA is getting into the roadway design business. In FHWA’s new round of rule-making, DOT will set its own bicycle and pedestrian safety standards for the first time. The agency will “highlight bicycle and pedestrian safety as a priority,” LaHood said. No one at U.S. DOT reached out to NACTO in advance of the AASHTO speech, but NACTO spokesperson Ron Thaniel said they have a “close working relationship with Secretary LaHood” and “look forward to working with him” on the new standards. LaHood noted that he would be meeting with cyclists next week at the National Bike Summit here in Washington and that he would work with them on ways to improve infrastructure “to make biking and walking opportunities as safe as they possibly can be.” But it was wise of him to make his announcement at AASHTO, not at the Bike Summit. He seems to be trying to bring AASHTO into the fold of a movement to embrace more innovative bikeway designs. “I’m asking [the cycling community] for their help but I’m asking you to be helpful also,” he told the state officials. “I know that most of you want to build the 21st century infrastructure that your communities need to be competitive.
