March Meeting and Chairperson

Good day folks, It's come to my attention that I'm not going to be able to make it to the March 6th meeting. I'm going to consider this a good time for a new chairperson to be appointed. I suppose this probably isn't the best way for this to be done, but I also guess that it will just have to be. If folks want to meet and discuss this as a group before the meeting or whatever, I'm sure that can be arranged. I'm not resigning from the board, but it is time that we have a real chairperson. Now everyone think a bit, then hopefully get outside to enjoy at least a modicum of this nice weather. Gunnar. Thank you Traci for sending out the latest Action Items. They are being reposted now as a reminder- 223. Traci; Find out if any WVU sustainability interns are interested in serving on the BB 224. Damien; Organize a meeting between city officials and BB to discuss the Law & Order article that will include Damien, someone from the city manager's office, the police chief, Chip, Gunnar, and Traci 230. Damien; Talk to Fred about BFC sign 236. Jing; Send information to BB about October traffic counts and send a list of other suggested intersections for counts 239. Emily; Email BB to ask who is interested in meeting with Clement Solomon at WVU 253. Emily, Marilyn, Gunnar; Review the education components from the Bike Plan to come up with a proposal for Allstate 255. Gunnar, Chip; Volunteered to pull together examples of secure bicycle parking that we can take back to the COW 256. Gunnar; Will check in with Damien to get the label for the secure bicycle parking that's already installed 262. Frank; Send the WV Connecting Communities Powerpoint from the meeting he attended to the BB 263. Combined a few old action items (254., 255., 258.) to make a new one that is 'Collect information COW asked for from Oct 2013 presentation': Emily and Damien are working on pulling together what various data collecting methods we can take back to the COW; APBP guidelines will be used to answer questions about secure bike parking that we recommend for zoning, etc. for the COW and Chris Fletcher 264. Gunnar; Lead development of a concise primer for city police officers that explains why bicyclist lane position is important to record on accident reports that the officers fill out 265. Sorry Derek, Someone else is gonna have to be in charge of the meeting. Last chance for me putting together a meeting was last month but it was thrown under the bus as the TAP folks had their own instead of getting folks together and finding a new chair. Potential VFW Property Development w/ Bike Storage, etc...

Bike Board Members, *Lisa Martis, with Project Management Services, is working with a developer to consider a multi-story development on the VFW property at 494 Spruce Street.* She contacted the Bike Board, through Frank Gmeindl last week, *to get the Boards input on bicycle storage required by city code and the abundance of space that the developer currently has in their plans to consider other bicycle-related facilities (bicycle repair business, bike share, bicycle rental business, storage business, etc). * Part 13 of the Morgantown City Code states: *1349.08 Parking and Loading Standards * *(C) Bicycle Storage - For all Developments of Significant Impact and Major Developments of Significant Impact in this district, the following minimum bicycle storage amenities must be provided: * * (1) One (1) indoor, secured, sheltered bicycle storage space per dwelling unit* * (2) Each space shall be a minimum of 3 feet X 6 feet X 4 feet* * (3) Each bicycle shall be individually secured with a lock to a permanent structure* * (4) There should be sufficient space for easy access to each bicycle* Jonathan Rosenbaum and I provided some comments to her, so she met with me today and will meet with Jonathan soon, but would like to meet with the whole Bike Board. She would like to meet with the Bike Board, hopefully as a whole, next week, to get our input and guidance on the bike storage and facility that could be placed at the new development. She will also show us the plans that have been drawn. *Can we please place her on the April 3 Bike Board meeting agenda, preferably earlier in the meeting to save her time? Hi Lisa, I have nothing to contribute with regard to commercial bicycle business. As you know, I am in favor of providing bicycle parking throughout the City including secure indoor parking in residential developments. I've attached the APBP bicycle parking guidelines if they can provide any help. I shared your message with the Bicycle Board. Jonathan Rosenbaum, Director of Positive Spin would like to discuss this opportunity. Derek Springston opined that the WVU Outdoor Recreation Center might be interested in a downtown satellite that would focus on bicycle rental.
