Once again, we have an opportunity to enhance our relationship with police, other emergency responders and the community. Fit helmets on kids 10 am - 2 pm Sat. May 17 at Walmart, University Town Center, Granville. Last year, Marilyn Newcome, Steve Harouff and Geoff Fusco helped give away 300 helmets. This year, Ryan Serritella anticipates 1,000. BB folks, Lisa Mardis requested that I forward her email below. She is requesting that at least a few BB members show up to a May 8th Planning Commission Meeting and/or May 21st Board of Zoning Appeals Meeting to show support for the VFW project that aims at installing 100+ bicycle parking spots due to B4 zoning in a development on the property. Everyone is welcome to attend an In-service Wed 5/14/14 12:15 HealthSouth - MountainView Main Classroom Hello clinical team, I would like to take a minute to introduce you to an upcoming opportunity that HealthSouth MountainView has been given, in assisting pediatric and adolescents with special needs to receive individually custom/adapted bicycles through a program offered by Variety, the children's charity. The "My Bike" program provides bicycles to qualifying families and information is shared on the attached fact sheet. The program has been so successful in PA, that the "My Bike" program has now been launched in West Virginia. HealthSouth MountainView is looking forward to presenting an in-service about this program at the date/time indicated on the attached flyer. In addition as a recognized local provider of Inpatient and Outpatient Pediatric rehabilitation, we hope to become a local "fitting" location for children who will be receiving these adapted bicycles. April 23 – LWVMM Hosts Board of Education Candidate Forum <http://www.lwvwv.org/2014/04/22/lwvmm-hosts-board-of-education-candidate-fo…> The League of Women Voters will host a Candidate Forum for the candidates for the Board of Education in Monongalia County on Wednesday, April 23rd, 7 to 9 pm at the Village at Heritage Point. Robert Core, Michael Kelly, Barbara Parsons, and Clarence Harvey are the four candidates vying for three Board seats. The election on May 13 is the final election for the Board of Education; it is not a primary. The three with the most votes will be on the Board of Education. The public is welcome to come and ask questions during the forum, and then mingle with the candidates over refreshments. http://wvutoday.wvu.edu/n/2014/04/14/wvu-city-of-morgantown-begin-process-t… West Virginia University and the greater Morgantown area have submitted a letter of intent to be the first joint National Safety Council “Safe Community.” Morgantown and WVU would join nearly 30 towns in the country by becoming a “Safe Community.” It would the first designated “Safe Community” in West Virginia and the first joint “Safe Community” between a university and a town. Safe Communities America, a program of the National Safety Council, exists to promote safety and well-being in towns across the country. They bring businesses, civic organizations, local government, non-profits and residents together to build a safer community for all to enjoy. WVU President Gordon Gee and city and county officials signed a letter today (April 14), committing to the submission of an official application within the next year. “The value added of a University devoted to the well-being of the town and state where it lives is among the most important callings of a university, particularly one designated by its mission as a land-grant university,” Gee said. “This is another step in West Virginia University and the Morgantown community working more closely together.” According to a study by the National Safety Council, these “Safe Communities” lower fatal injury rates by a significant amount, with an average 10 percent reduction of intentional and unintentional injuries. “We are all working toward the common goal of improving the quality of life for our community members,” said Colleen Harshbarger, director of the WELLWVU Office of Wellness and Health Promotion and co-chair. “The successful ‘Safe Communities’ process will not only result in better outcomes related to safety and well-being, but will also form lasting collaborative relationships. There’s so much talent in Greater Morgantown, I believe we will make great strides in our common goals by bringing people together in a way that will benefit all.” Becoming a “Safe Community” will give Morgantown and WVU access to various benefits, including programs to evaluate and improve current injury prevention, funding opportunities and national recognition, Harshbarger said. As a part of the application process, the group will be collecting injury data that can be used to collaborate and share with others. It will also continue collaboration between the City and University and improve or create programs to address injury patterns and trends in the community. A group of faculty, staff, community members, state and city representatives began to meet last fall to discuss the opportunity of becoming a Safe Community. Accurate bicycle counts

Who wants to contact Alex Hyde-Wright, Boulder County Assistant Transportation Planner to find out how they are getting accurate bicycle counts by modifying their tube counter system that they've been using to count vehicles? Please see article at : http://www.dailycamera.com/boulder-county-news/ci_25581681/new-count-shows-… I've seen tubes all around town recently and I know they're not counting bikes. The Greater Morgantown Bicycle Plan and now the MPO Long Range Transportation Plan both plan bike counts. What are we waiting for? If Boulder can count bikes, so can Morgantown-Monongalia County. Delaware ditches Share the Road signs

But where a double yellow line also exists, it is very easy for a motorist to interpret the combination of the cyclist at the right hand edge of the lane and the double yellow line separating her lane from the lane of oncoming traffic as an invitation to pass in the travel lane. But on roads where the travel lanes are only 10 or 11 feet, this is a potentially catastrophic misunderstanding.
