July General Meeting: Call for Agenda Items

I think the Federal Highway Administration should consider bicyclists in measuring the performance of our highways. I hope you do too and that you will respond to the LAB’s call for action. I only changed the 6th paragraph. Instead of the wording suggested in the template, I wrote, "My state, West Virginia, my county, Monongalia and my city, Morgantown all have complete streets policies that require us to consider alternative modes of transportation in all highway projects. My city has a comprehensive bicycle plan with a goal of having 5% of all trips in our City to be by bicycle by 2020. We need data on the bicycling safety of our highways to motivate and to shape our policies and plans. We are looking for ten great places to join this exciting new project - places where community leaders have ambitious plans to create safe and comfortable places to ride and encourage their neighbors and co-workers to give it a try. We want places that are eager to benchmark their progress and see the benefits of a big jump in biking in healthier people and better communities. Over the next three years, we will work in a diverse portfolio of places, cities, small towns, neighborhoods, suburbs, and downtowns, that have ambitious plans to improve on-the- ground infrastructure and collaborate with the community to get more people on bikes. We are particularly interested in places where bikes can improve access to jobs and opportunity for underserved communities; connect suburban areas to transit hubs and town centers; connect to paths and parks to encourage physical activity, and catalyze the economic potential of tourism. June draft minutes

Hi all, Please find minutes from our June meeting attached. This meeting was unusual because we spent most of the time discussing the proposed bicycle parking ordinance with City of Morgantown staff and Planning Commission members. It's tough to condense 60+ minutes of discussion into notes, so if something is unclear or you have questions about the workshop please let me know. If you have any corrections or changes to any of the minutes, please let me know! *Volunteer Opportunities* *July 4th parade* Lead the parade down High Street! We need about 4 volunteers to help supervise and escort kids on bikes who will be leading the parade down High Street. Meet at the top of High Street at 4pm on Monday, July 4 with your bike (bonus points if it's decorated!). All children are welcome to participate. Reminder: Bicycle Parking Workshop TONIGHT, plus another grant

Board, Tonight's the night -- we're hosting a workshop with the planning commission regarding our proposed parking ordinance update. Given that this meeting has been publicized through the planning commission, we could particularly benefit from your presence to help answer any questions from the public and developers. You can see the proposed update in its relevant attachment. Also, please review the additional two attachments regarding an additional education grant opportunity from the Governor's Highway Safety Office. You'll find the application is pretty dang simple! The other attachment is our 2010 education grant for some inspiration. Please ruminate on projects or areas of focus you would like to see included in this grant. Best, Drew
