Friends -On behalf of WV Connecting Communities & the 2017 WV Bike Summit Planning Committee, sorry for being tardy, but we finally launched a 2017 Bike Summit feedback survey! I am hoping that this board will be vital to change the practice and culture of DOH & DOT. The trail is cleared thanks to our trail maintenance crew but very muddy. We will be working with heavy equipment in this area starting tomorrow, February 14. Steep hills

From the last 2 BB meetings, I took an action item to identify streets that I think should be marked as steep on any bike route maps we produce. Just off the top of my head, here’s a list to start: Gem Elk Snider Protzman Riddle Darst Overhill Third Sixth Eighth Arboretum Service Road Leeway Stafford Hirschman These are streets that I think the average cyclist might have to walk. February Meeting: Quick Recap

Good evening everyone! Last night’s meeting was a success as we discussed updates to the Bike Plan which scope continues to be refined as data collection takes place. MPO will continue to take the lead, and the Bike Board will provide suggestions where appropriate. Additionally, we received updated information on the upcoming Bike/Pedestrian Count. The primary focus of the upcoming Bike/Pedestrian Count is on pedestrians in high traffic intersections which will include 40 different locations with 6hrs/day of continuous counting over two consecutive days. Board members are encouraged to continue/take part in discussions regarding ways to make bike/pedestrian counts, and any suggestions they may have for the upcoming count. New Action Items Chip will contact Captain McCabe and begin communications with individuals in charge of upcoming parades with the goal of getting Bike Board representation within those parades. Drew will get Frank literature from regarding bike/pedestrian count methods including crowd sourcing. Frank and Chip will lead an effort to review and summarize the old Bike Plan. With the goal of answering: What got done? Why did it get done? How did it get done? Frank and Drew: will get J.Nellis information on how to automatically get street grades to identify which streets are steep or provide a list of known streets. Drew will send out a summary of the TAP Project proposals that were submitted. If you have any questions please let me know. Best, Brian

Meeting Feb 1 (Next Thursday): January Draft Minutes, February Draft Agenda

All, Please review the drafts of both documents attached. Highlights from last meeting: We voted in a new secretary (to be confirmed by Traffic Commission), Brian Leary -- welcome back to Morgantown, Brian! We're excited to have you serve as secretary for the board. New action items (from January meeting) - All members with open action items will work to split those items into smaller tasks that are achievable on shorter timelines. Please report these changes to Brian Leary (briankleary(a)gmail.com) before next meeting. - Annual events committee (Chip, Beth, Bridget, Harry, Marilyn) will meet before next month. (already done! see Chip's email for minutes of that meeting) - Jonathan Nellis and Drew will work together on adding route slopes to our commuter map - Jing will send out a draft of bike/ped count locations as well as a draft scope of work for the bike plan update (this will only be sent to a subset of members) Finally, changes to our bylaws: We voted to change the attendance requirement from "the ability to attend no less than four meetings per year" to "the ability to miss no more than four meetings per year." Also: “Members will proactively notify the officers in the event they miss a meeting and provide updates to any outstanding action items under their ownership – ideally before the meeting, as possible” This change would place a few of you in violation of the updated policy (no worries, we won't kick you out!) -- so we seek more input before we'll take it to the traffic commission.
