Hi all, Here are the minutes from October's meeting. Some highlights include: *Decisions:* *1. *Approved: September minutes, stickers for bicycle friendly city signs, try to get sharrows installed on the Jones-Raleigh corridor *2. *Postponed tour de sharrow until February unless new sharrows are put down on Rawley sooner *3. *Form committee to plan and organize yearly events *4. *Move November social rides to Sunday to ensure daylight as fall sets in and the days get shorter *Some new action items* *1. *All: go to neighborhood meetings to tell everyone about bike board; D. Bicycle Parking required at Morgantown Mall

Good news: Article (copied below) on front page of today’s Dominion Post says, County Commission unanimously approved site development for Book Exchange at former Elder Beerman location in Morgantown Mall, "with the condition that parking include a minimum number of long-term and short-term bicycle storage areas”. How’d that happen? Harry?:) Frank Commission approves site d e ve l o p m e n t BY BEN CONLEY The Dominion Post A 19,000 square-foot development in the space formerly occupied by Elder-Beerman in the old Mountaineer Mall received site plan approval from the Morgantown Planning Commission on Thursday. Book Exchange Holdings Inc. owner Jonathan Fleming requested the significant impact site plan review. He said that the space will be used to support the online retail portion of Book Exchang e’s business. “We started this side of our business about five years ago and we’ve been selling things online more and more,” F leming said. “We started with 6,000 feet. We went up to 11,000 [feet] and this year we need to go up to 19,000 [feet]. This is really the only space in Morgantown we could find that kind of fit the bill.” The request was unanimously approved with the condition that parking include a minimum number of longterm and short-term bicycle storage areas.

All, Please be aware that the MHS homecoming parade is scheduled to begin at 6pm tonight. The parade will traverse the usual High Street route and disperse at Foundry Street. Traveling via motor vehicle to our meeting might be limited if you are approaching from Beechurst, University Ave, Willey Street, or South High Street. Hello Board! Upcoming events: - General Meeting, October 5th 6:30-8:30pm - Social Ride, October 13th 6:00-9:00pm - Special Election for Constitutional Amendment: October 7, 2017 First, please send an email if you want to join me and/or our assistant city engineer, Alex Stockdale, sometime this week to site and locate the locations of some sharrows and R4-11 (Bicycles May Use Full Lane) signs here in the next week. This could occur during the middle of the business day or after hours as convenient for those interested. It will be an excellent opportunity to get involved with the inter-month workings of the board. Second, *please send suggested agenda topics my way before 5pm tomorrow*. I'll send out the agenda tomorrow evening. Please see our September minutes attached. Thank you, Bridget, for serving as secretary for a second time in recent months! We hosted the bike summit last weekend, and I've gotta say that it was a smashing success! Many thousands of thanks are due to all board members who pitched in with planning over the past year, and indeed many thousands of thanks are due to the entire board and cycling community here in Morgantown for making such an attractive community to host the summit. Kelly -It just occurred to Drew & me that we'll have the other 2 rides that, though not led by CRC, may need insurance too. I'm wondering if these could be added too? We may have CRC members on each of those rides...sorry to be a pain, just checking. The other 2 rides are a MTB ride in white park and the educational ride of ~20 folks around town (~9 miles total, mostly on road). Thanks for checking. I am not certain about taking a group of cyclists up RT 100 to Mount Morris, I have avoided that road for the last two years because of the very bad condition of the road. Two other possibilities would be to bike up the Mon River Trail to Friendship Hill or to Lake Lynn Dam, the drawback there is, if it is wet, the one mile undeveloped trail to Point Marion can be pretty muddy.But, I am open to any suggestions. The bigger question to me is the one of insurance. Country Roads Cyclists has insurance to cover its members riding, but we had to pay extra ($233.00) for an event, like the Spring Spectacular in May of 2017. So, would the bike board or WV Bike Summit be covering this? I am looking forward to hearing back on these two issues. I'll look into the insurance question. A few questions back:1) what route to Rising Creek would you take? We'd trust your judgement of the road conditions, of course. Now that I think more about it, is there a safe road ride on only WV roads (rather than into PA) since this is the WV Bike Summit?2) re: insurance - if a non-member joins in one of your scheduled rides, is insurance needed? I am not certain about taking a group of cyclists up RT 100 to Mount Morris, I have avoided that road for the last two years because of the very bad condition of the road. Two other possibilities would be to bike up the Mon River Trail to Friendship Hill or to Lake Lynn Dam, the drawback there is, if it is wet, the one mile undeveloped trail to Point Marion can be pretty muddy.But, I am open to any suggestions. The bigger question to me is the one of insurance. Country Roads Cyclists has insurance to cover its members riding, but we had to pay extra ($233.00) for an event, like the Spring Spectacular in May of 2017. So, would the bike board or WV Bike Summit be covering this? I am looking forward to hearing back on these two issues.
