Lead cyclist needed for Decker's Creek Trail Half Marathon

BB Members, Ella Belling sent me this. I'm likely out of town that weekend. She said she needs one more cyclist. *---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------* *Lead cyclist needed: June 6 Deckers Creek Trail Half Marathon* Are you available and willing to be one of our lead cyclists on Saturday June 6 for the Deckers Creek Trail Half Marathon? Race start is at 8:30AM so you need to be in Masontown before the runners gather- 8-8:15AM. We normally have 3 lead cyclists to let water stop volunteers know that runners are coming, make sure road crossings are staffed (if not one of you takes over that spot until staffer arrives), and alerts the public trail users to runners if needed. By Morgantown runners are spread out and not an issue much to other trail use. Fastest runners can get to finish by 9:40AM at Hazel Ruby McQuain Park, so you need to know you can be faster :-) This race is vital to keeping our rail-trails in good shape and our trail organization ticking. Who wants to take the lead on sending Kasey a paragraph on Morgantown accomplishments for the "State of Cycling and Walking" report? I was preparing a "State of Cycling" in Morgantown to send to Kasey before the April 10 WVCC BOD meeting but then Christiaan and Emily sent material to Kasey and I thought we were done. I think some ONE should at least compile all the input we've already given into one paragraph and send it to her. Following is my recollection of what we've sent or told her already: Morgantown has an official comprehensive bicycling plan and Morgantown Monongalia MPO established distinct bicycle plan in Long Range Transportation Plan. Bike to Work Day- Friday, May 15th @ Hazel Ruby McQuain Park

Hello All, Bike to Work Day is next Friday, 5/15! Riders will meet at Hazel Ruby McQuain Park for coffee and treats provided by The Grind beginning at 8:15am. Free beer coupons from Black Bear will be provided to the first 25 riders, and all can enter to win a $25 gift card from Real Juice. Mayor Selin and Bike Board members will ride towards Star City on the trail at 8:30. All are welcome! I am copying Chelsi Baker from the City to help publicize on social media, etc. If anyone is so inclined, a flyer has also been suggested to put up around town to spread the word. *Item:* Positive Spin is looking for a representative from the Bicycle Board to come and speak at their Annual Meeting. There will be representatives from other initiatives speaking, too. *Desired Outcome:* Bicycle Board sends a representative to come and speak at the PS Annual on June 28. *Expanded:* Positive Spin's Annual Meeting will be Sunday, June 28. Because this year marks the organization's 10th year anniversary, Positive Spin wants to do something special so they have decided to invite speakers representing local bike-related groups, organizations, and government initiatives like the Bicycle Board and MPO to talk about their contributions to biking in our area. It is amazing how many bike initiatives exist in our area, yet few people know about all of them; this will be a great opportunity to shine, and increase impetus in our community. The time allotted to each speaker will depend on how many representatives can attend the event. Before the event begins, there will be an optional easy Country Roads Cyclists (CRC) ride up Deckers Creek to Dave's Shack and back (begins 1:00pm). At 4:00pm there will be a Potluck, so the speaking part will commence around 5:00pm. -Jonathan PS - This August marks the BB's 9th year anniversary!
