Commuting committee recommendation - Presentation

Good evening, Here's the commuting committee's recommendation for the traffic committee. Bike parking lockers for downtown. I apologize for getting it out late, I hope you have a little time to review it before the meeting. There are a total of 4 slides. WVU Transportation Plan

Good afternoon everyone, I got this email today from the school. It is the draft of the WVU's Transportation and Parking Plan. I haven't gotten a chance to read all of it, but it seems that many of WVU's ideas on improvements for bikes are similar to the Board's. Some of their suggestions we will actually be recommending to the Traffic Commission tonight. There are also some good ideas that may be worth recommending to the city. In addition, there is mention of working with the Bike Board on bicycle issues. The last day to submit comments is April 19th at planpark(a)mail.wvu.edu. The final plan should be released May 15th. Traffic Commission meeting tonight

The Traffic Commission will be considering our recommendations on infrastructure and education tonight at 6:30 in City Council chambers. Any Bike Board members who can attend for moral support will be appreciated! Chip (I lost your email, hence this note to the whole board), please bring any info you have on the "on road" signage and could you be prepared to say a few words about cost, durability, friction, etc.? I have attached the report we gave to the Traffic Commission in February so you can all remind yourselves what we are discussing. Thanks, Greg

John, How can we let go the man that defined our Vision: Bicycle anywhere, anytime for any reason!? Do you want to leave because my leadership is too strong or "too capable"? You bring unique and valuable perspectives and interests to the Board that will leave it unbalanced if you resign. Please reconsider. Thursday BB meeting 407 Allen Hall

Bike Board Members, Thanks to Jim Rye, we will have our meeting as scheduled this Thursday 12-April 6:30-8:30 PM but in 407 Allen Hall on the WVU Evansdale Campus. To get to Room 407 Allen Hall, enter the bldg at the 4th floor entrance--has bike rack very close to doors. They don't ticket after 5:30 p or so in the adjacent lot (50), should be no problem for motorists. Walk straight towards the computer lab area (called the Teaching Learning Technology Center) and you'll pass mens and womens restrooms; just before you would enter this lab area, take a right: This is room 407. Frank, I wouldn't be able to attend Friday. Also, I attempted to get our Conference Room here at Stalnaker for Thursday. It is already being used, although apparently the room can only be used for University functions anyway. I would suggest the Mountain Lair, but my guess is that the rooms are only for school activities too. Tyler

Meet Friday?

Bike Board members, Can you meet this Friday 6:30-8:30 PM? The reason I ask is that we lost Council Chambers for this Thursday. The Public Safety Building and Library are not available Thursday either. The Conference Room in the Public Safety Building is available Friday night. Please reply ASAP. If most of us can participate Friday, we'll reschedule. If not, where else could we meet 6:30-8:30 Thursday? Frank

Meeting postponed

Bike Board Members, Attached please find the agenda for our meeting this Thursday. Please note, we will be meeting in Council Chambers (across and up the street from where we usually meet). Also attached, is the minutes from our last meeting. Hopefully, the PR committee and Commuting committee will be able to distribute read-aheads for the PR committee and Commuting committee recommendations in time for us to review them in preparation for the meeting. Also, *please* plan to attend the Traffic Commission meeting this Wednesday, 11-April, 6:30 PM. It's also in Council Chambers. I think it is very important that we have many Bike Board members attending to show support for our Infrastructure and Education recommendations. How strongly the TC supports our recommendations can depend on the number of us who show up. Besides reviewing what the Traffic Commission did with our recommendations, at our Thursday meeting, we'll have a lot to talk about the Effective Cycling training. Eight of our members completed the March 10-11 Road I course and Nick and I completed the instructor certification seminar April 5-7. At our meeting Thursday, we may also have a chance to form committees to address the last of our goal groups: Law, Maps and Bike Parking. I think we've all learned a lot over the past several months by working on our committees. I'm hoping that we can bring together all this knowledge in the next few months to complete our first comprehensive bicycling plan. Good morning, WVU is working on its transportation plan. I'm forwarding comments that came from Positive Spin by way of Will Ravenscroft who is on our board. Will has also made the excellent suggestion that the university institute a bike checkout system where bikes are stored in lockers that can be accessed by students/staff wherever they are, using a swipe card for access and tracking. This system is in use in Lyon, France and is being considered in Paris. Response to the idea from WVU was positive. Seems like it could be instituted on an incremental basis, starting with a few bikes in a few locations and expanded as demand warrants. Meeting postponed

Bike Board Members, I would like to postpone this Thursday's Bike Board meeting to the following Thursday, 12-April due to absence of myself and other members plus some committees needing a little more time to complete their recommendations. This month's Traffic Commission meeting has also been postponed one week to Wednesday, 11-April. They will be deciding on our Infrastructure and Education recommendations so I hope you'll all attend to see how they work and how our recommendations come out. The meeting will begin 6:30 PM in Council Chambers (across and up the street from where we meet). Besides reviewing what the Traffic Commission did with our recommendations, at our next meeting, we'll have a lot to talk about the Effective Cycling training. The week delay in our meeting may give the Commuting, Public Relations and Bicycle Friendly Community Application committees a chance to polish their final products and get them out as read-aheads to the Bike Board. I think we've all learned a lot over the past several months by working on our committees.
