As I've stated before, I am interested in helping with GIS mapping and analysis for the Bike Board, but it seems like there are several of us who are interested or have already been mapping. I think it would be great for us GIS folks to get together and figure out where we are with mapping and who has what. I would like to start making contacts on who is willing to help with GIS mapping. Maybe this would be more appropriately brought up at the next meeting? Resignation letter

Good evening, I just wanted to let everyone on the board know that I resigned tonite. I'm leaving on the best possible terms, and I want to thank all present and past boardmembers for your passionate commitment to making Morgantown a better cycling community. This has made it a pleasure to work with you. My decision was somewhat spontaneous. We were discussing a slate of 3 qualified applicants for 2 positions on the board. My resignation made it possible to recommend them all without taking a vote. I see this as a good thing - as director of Positive Spin my second favorite thing (next to teaching young kids to ride for the first time) is seeing other citizens working together in an effective board as they grow into community leaders. It makes my decision easier that Positve Spin needs more of my attention and there are only so many hours in a month. The coming months will be critical for building our board so that to continue filling the unmet need we've tapped at the grass roots. It will need to be strong and self-sustaining to help Morgantown meet the 80% reduction in vehicle miles to avoid climate disaster. Thank you for your passion, enthusiasm and leadership in the past. Good luck to all the board -old and new- as you make the future. And don't hesitate to call anytime I can offer technical, logistical or menu advice. Agenda for this Thursday's (6/5) BB meeting

Bicycle Board Members, Please find attached a zip folder that contains 6 documents: the agenda for this Thursday's meeting; minutes of our last meeting; our procedural guidelines; and 3 documents relevant to our goals. In reviewing our procedural guidelines, I noticed that while Bicycle Board member term of office is 3 years, officer (Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary) term of office is only 1 year. I, Don Dickerson and Betsy have been the officers for way over a year so I put officer election on the agenda. Also I must say that while reading through the items in the Purpose section of our procedural guidelines, I felt very proud that we have held true to those items. While reading through the duties, I also felt very proud of how professionally and thoroughly we have executed them. (We still need to produce a comprehensive bicycle plan, though.) On the other hand, I am terribly disappointed that the City has been practically unresponsive and even resistant to our recommendations and apparently powerless to get them implemented. (Does it really have to take a year to paint a stripe in the middle of the rail-trail down by the pavilion?!) Therefore, when we get to the Goals topic on the agenda, rather than focusing on things we'd like to see done, I suggest we determine HOW to get them done. See you Thursday! Pittsburgh bike map now online

Good evening, I just found out about this from BikePGH. You may be interested in it if you're going to ride in PGH, and it might help us draft our own map. http://www.bike-pgh.org/campaigns/commuter-bike-maps I took a quick look at it. I don't see recommended routes, but they list bike shops, trail access, things like that. It's a Google map with landmarks basically. Bicycle Board Members, I have just learned that Patricia Lewis and Mary Beth Renner (one of whom I suppose is the Mayor of Granville) will be attending tonight's meeting. In an e-mail, Lewis said, "We thought maybe the board will have some advice for us on how to pursue a bike/pedestrian lane down Rt. 100 through Granville." I suggest we give them time during the ripe banana issues topic to understand what they want to do but not solve their problem during the meeting. The desired outcome of this item should be that we understand what they need and that some people volunteer to help them after tonight's meeting. REMINDER: Campus Connector Hike - April 22

When: Earth Day, April 22 What: Campus Connector hike Time: 12:00 (noon) Where: Blaney House Parking lot (WVU President's home) Ends: At the Blaney House This Tuesday, April 22, aka Earth Day, we will be having an all-inclusive hike of what Michael Bomford has termed as the Jones Ave. and Grant Ave. Greenways in his pamphlet (see attached document). The Grant Avenue Greenway is now essentially part of the Sunnyside Up Streetscape which includes the Morgantown City side of the Campus Connector (CC). The rest of the CC will be on WVU property that leads up to the plateau in the vicinity of the Blaney House. At 12:00 (noon) we will begin our hike at the Blaney House parking lot. Please try to arrive by walking/bicycling/transit, however, there will be parking arranged by Hugh Kierig, WVU Directory of Parking and Transportation. He is looking forward to showing us the area being designed into a new transit facility on the North Avenue Firehall property that may be incorporated into the Jones Avenue Greenway. Jim Hunt is excited about showing us the Sunnyside Up streetscape, and enthusiastic Greg Good will be our tour guide facilitator. This is going to be an exciting and informative hike. Please bring cameras, note taking implements, sturdy walking shoes, comfortable clothing, food and water. We will be hiking one large loop (mostly paved) that includes hiking up the proposed undeveloped part of the CC that goes sideways up the hill ending near the Blaney House. See you there! -Jonathan
