Interscholastic Cycling League is now in Monongalia County

Some of you may be familiar with the http://www.westvirginiamtb.org/, now it is in Monongalia County! >From Amber Ray Garcia: FYI - Do you have a child 6th -12th grade interested in mountain biking? Mon County is starting a league of the Interscholastic Cycling League. Season is July- September. This is not related to any one school, open to all middle and high school kids. Many thanks to the events committee for their work already towards bike month and the big bike rodeo we're planning on May 19th (giving away 125 helmets!) -- let's help them make this year's events the best yet. Congress Rejects Big Budget Cuts | Safe Routes to School National Partnership

Bike Train resources for schools

The Safe Routes to Schools National Partnership came out with new resources for setting up bike train programs at schools. Christiaan Albildso already has something going, maybe we can get these resources out to other interested parties to get more trains rolling. Action Item Reminders

Hope everyone is doing well, I just wanted to send out some action item reminders from the March meeting to help keep everyone on track. If you have any questions please let me know and I'll do my best to answer them. Here are the new action items from the March meeting: #108: Marilyn will work with events committee to develop K-12 outreach plan for Bike Rodeo #109: Bridget will work with events committee to contact National Center of Excellence in Women's Health (Betty Critch), City of Morgantown office of communications (Andrew Stacy), and WVU office of sustainability (Traci Knabenshue) regarding relevant 2018 events. #110: Drew will send out a formal request for help with the installation of a bike / bus shelter at MTEC. #111: All board members present at the meeting (who received a draft copy of Chip's review of the bike plan) will read that plan and send Chip comments #112: Harry will send Drew a copy of an exit interview for use in learning from departing board members Best, Brian

Today - opportunity to help Positive Spin load / unload bikes

I realize this announcement is a little late, but hopefully there are some folk looking for something unusual to do during Spring Break. Positive Spin is performing a large pickup at the Granville Walmart today at 1pm (80 bikes and 4 additional pallets) and we are looking for a few additional volunteers. Meet us in the automotive parking lot on the side of Walmart in Granville if you would like to help load and unload these bikes onto the large flatbed that McDaniels towing will be providing for free, also Garcia's will be providing free food for volunteers. -Jonathan

anyone available to lead social ride March 16?

Hi all, We are planning the first social ride of the season for this Friday, March 16 at 6pm, starting from the farmer's market pavillion. Unfortunately I just realized I have to be out of town next weekend. Is there anyone else who would be able to lead this ride? If not, I could do it the following week, but we are trying to get the third Friday of the month to stick. Best, Bridget

Connector to rail train (Fwd: WVU Core Arboretum master planning project input this Monday)

There is a public input session that includes considering the 5% grade connector to the rail trail through adjacent WVU property this Monday and March 26. I hope some folk from the BB and the biking community at-large can attend one or both of these sessions. Things are starting to wake up here at the Arboretum! Harbingers of spring are in bloom, birds are starting to sing, and several other plants, including bluebells, are coming up already. I am writing to let you know about an exciting project at the Arboretum, and some opportunities to provide input. Landscape Architecture students at WVU are beginning to work on an Arboretum master planning project. This should be a great thing for the Arboretum's future, and it is an opportunity to dream big! Some of these students are hosting public sessions to get input about some "potential" future Arboretum projects that they are starting to work on. Some of the ideas include: a visitor's center, 5% grade connector to rail trail through adjacent WVU property, wetland rehabilitation/boardwalk, dock with kayak ramp, reconnecting to the northern portion of the Arboretum, etc. The first session is this Monday at 1:30-4:00 in the new Agricultural Sciences Building Room 4443. If you are available, come help these students develop some great ideas! RSVP to get a parking pass, see attached flyer for details. Sorry for the late notice, but this is a class project that is just now coming together. This is the first iteration of many, and there will be plenty of chances to provide input.
