I'm in for bike to work day on May 15th and can lead a group to Health Sciences/Ruby. Also, I'm trying to organize a group of the Mountainview ES kids on my street (Wagner Road) to ride to school on May 6th for Bike to School Day. Any volunteers to help plan and/or ride the day of? My son - in Kindergarten - has ridden most of the route with me before. I could probably get a half-dozen or so older kids to join in. Here's the ride I've mapped (and ridden) - the offroad parts are on trail or along some sideyards that are actually old streets that have been overgrown by grass ("paper streets"). There are two "sketchy" crossings that we'd have to stop traffic: Dorsey by Wagner (cemetery) and on Dorsey again across from the school. Check out this map onMapMyFitness: 2.29 mi Wagner to Mtview ES B2S Day Distance: 2.29 mi http://www.mapmyfitness.com/routes/view/647994754

I know Morgantown has done a ride for years and is doing one this year. We will be doing one in Charleston as well. I am happy to help you organize one in your community. Please email or call me so we can start!
Can we do it again this year? Last year, Emily organized the best Bike To Work day we've ever had! - 12 participants including Mayor Selin - Coffee, muffins, granola bars, table, server, Maggie from the Grind - Free beer tickets from Black Bear - Gift certificate raffle from Real - Safe ride out the trail to Sixth St., up Beechurst & Mon Blvd. and across the Evansdale campus. Who's in this year? I'll help. Frank<photo.jpeg>

WVCC Update, March 9, 2015Hello WVCC Members: It’s a very good thing that we passed the BikeSafety Bill last session. The current WV House and Senate’s priorities do notinclude walkable and bikeable communities. Maybe they will look to creating healthier communities andcitizens and economic development and tourism opportunities created by morepeople walking and biking next session. In the meantime, WVCC will focus on city councils and county commissions. During the next few months, we will createa “State of the State of Cycling and Walking in WV.” I’m asking ALL of you tosend me something good regarding anything dealing with cycling or walking inyour community. We would like to have a great story to tell when we kick offour Bike Safety Campaign sometime in May so please send me your good news byMay 1st or sooner if you can. I will be sending out details aboutthe Give Em 3 Safety Campaign as I receive them. I’m sure we will have a bigmedia splash when the billboards start to appear around the Kanawha Valley. Our next board meeting is Friday, April 10thfrom 4 to 5:30 in Charleston. This will be a working, business only board meeting. If youwould like to join via conference call, please email me. All are welcome. We would like to see as many communities across WVparticipate in Bike to Work Day on May 15th. I know Morgantown has done a ride for yearsand is doing one this year. We will be doing one in Charleston as well. I amhappy to help you organize one in your community. Please email or call me so wecan start! Wish me and Brian Weber luck this week as we prepareto meet with the WV Congressional Delegation this Thursday. It’s the League ofAmerican Bicyclist’s Annual Lobby Day on Thursday and we will be meeting withstaffers to discuss the importance of pedestrian/cycling infrastructure to ourstate. I look forward to hearing from you, Kasey Kasey Russell, WVCC, Executive Director,304.542.1994
