Thanks, Ryan. Love the idea of making it a public race (including kids). That is truly my interest.

I have my doubts it can be done in time and with the meager budget a collegiate race has ($15/entry x 100entries) minus officials and misc expenses (bathrooms being major).
Essentially meaning, if police are needed to be paid for, it wont work. That date is 60days away.
If they proposed their course, that might help see if its worth going forward.
In my opinion, I think the best venue is around the Stadium like we did in I think 2007. We had no real issues, except April Messerly (WVU athletic facilities manager is her title I think) didn't want the event and made a lot of hurdles, and eventually never approved or denied the event which we held and that infuriated her. She vowed to never let Cycling have an event again. Theres a lot of details I can add.
I think making the race public and getting some support from the city might make that happen and would be far less work and is a very good venue.

Surely, a lot of parties will be involved.
@Ryan, do you think we can try to work it out this time?

I believe the route/course they are thinking of,
Would necessitate the closing of one of the lanes on University/Don
Knotts.
Not sure if that kind of thing is even legal to USAC or NCAA any more, but that's really the only way that they could do a long enough loop down there in the wharf. Yes, parking would be an issue if they go toward the parking garage too
far.
Ryan would know the most about the kinds of permits and people that need to know and can be helpful, as he has helped with and put on events such as this before.
There hasn't been a cycling event that closed streets in Morgantown since the early 1990s and that was the big pro-only Tour of West Virginia
thingie.

Unless some roads opened since then, it took a lot of area to meet the minimum distance requirement and then there was no parking that wasn't inside the race loop. I never even got to the part about requesting from the city to give permissions, which is going to be hard if some of those businesses are open (April 12 is a Sunday). I expect a race would be from 8a to 1pm unless it also included public racing which would make it all daylight.
I doubt WVU is going to be cordial with any event around the Stadium, Coliseum or Rec Center like you would expect, as they (really just 1 person) weren't when we put one on despite having no issues arise.

How would they go about planning this? They are road racers. Which Permissions are necessary? I know they have organized bike races in the past in other communities.

Hello Mayor Selin,
I am the road cycling coordinator for the WVU Cycling team. A team mate of mine got your contact info in hopes that we would be able to put on a race in the city of Morgantown.
We were hoping to be able to do the race on the 12th of April in the Wharf area. Obviously we are just in the early planning phases of this, and I was wondering how possible you think that this would be or if you had any insight as to how the city of Morgantown would like to go about planning this.
Thank you for your time,
Nicholas Caddenhead
