Bicycle Board Members,
Before I stick our collective feet in our collective mouths by sending the following message to the City Manager, all City Council members and all Traffic Commissioners, please let me know if you see any way to improve it. I plan to send it Monday.
Frank
Morgantown City Council, Traffic Commission and City Manager.
Attached, please find the League of American Bicyclists' feedback on Morgantown's application for Bicycle Friendly Community recognition.
As you know, the LAB has recognized Morgantown as a Bronze Level Bicycle Friendly Community. While remarkable in itself, this recognition is also significant when one recognizes that Morgantown is the first and only bronze level BFC in WV while LAB had ranked WV 50th among bicycle friendly states. I'm happy to say that this year, LAB scored WV higher in bicycling education and encouragement increasing WV from 50th to 48th. I think we can take some credit for that.
Attached is the LAB feedback on our application. Fortunately, the Greater Morgantown Bicycle Plan that you unanimously adopted already addresses much of the feedback. Now, the City's challenge is to implement the plan. We are due for renewal in February 2016. As many of you expressed at the May 1 City Council meeting, you want to go for Silver. To do so, or even to retain our Bronze status, we can't stand still.
Also attached is the press release that announces our recognition.
