That's what we asked the DOH to model during some traffic studies, the effect of a) eliminating right turns on red and b) changing the ped signals to be concurrent (walk signal automatic when parallel vehicles get green light) rather than exclusive (walk signal must be actuated by peds, gives walk signal at for all 4 crossings while all 4 traffic lights go red). Hope that makes sense. Darn near every city I've ever lived operates that way. Christiaan

Hi Frank and BB, I second Christian's point 4 about pedestrian signals downtown. Has either the city or DOH conducted studies to determine a more fluid system than waiting for all lights to turn red before pedestrian cross signs come on? Is there a story behind this arrangement? I'd love to understand the rationale.
