Hi BB,
This is to close my action alert as discussed at the September 2,
Bicycle Board Meeting.
Attached are two documents. The first is the Authoritative Striping
Guidelines document that was presented to the TC. The second is Sign
Placement on shared-use paths. Both documents refer to the 2003 MUTCD
that was/is still current. The first document also incorporates the
1999 AASHTO. The Striping Committee was comprised of Mark Wise
(BOPARC), Don Spencer (City), Mike Breiding (Citizen), Christiaan
Abildso (PSB), Ella Belling (MRTC), and me (BB), and ultimately came to
this consensus about striping:
Place a single, solid center line with arrows
denoting travel direction on dangerous trail segments and at areas
where pedestrians frequently enter the trail.
Based on personal observations, I feel this approach has been
successful in helping to alter people's behavior.
On another subject, if anyone is interested, I have the last revision
of the Bicycle Parking Plan which may be of interest to those who want
to get up to speed on what constitutes well-designed bicycle facilities.
