Hi Drew,
Here is the information about the Campus Connector. What is written
below was pasted from a previous email I sent to Stan Cohen on
11/07/2011 who was exploring the CC on behalf of the Pedestrian
Safety Board. Yes, it has been an ongoing saga, keep in mind, that
the
Jones
Avenue Greenway was built into the whole concept of connecting
the University with the City; and that the "Citizens for Responsible
Development" is the Green Space Coalition, although now defunct as
an organization, there has been talk about reviving it. Currently,
the WV Land Trust is handling the previous and new funds for GSC,
and hosts a yearly fundraiser. This includes funds that will be
used for the Suncrest rail trail connector:
I have compiled data at
http://osenergy.org/cc/
.
You will see these directories:
I chaired a CC committee where several stakeholders (SGA, BB, WVU,
Sunnyside Up, City Council, etc.) were brought together around a
table. I recommend looking at the
minutes/ because they
provide a good overview of the type of infrastructure the members
desired, as well as the ultimate reason why the CC didn't
materialize.
maps/ shows some proof of
concept designs from various sources.
presentations/
has early presentations from the originators of the CC concept,
Michael Bomford and Greg Good.
The
Dec-19-2007-Hike-presentation/
directory shows a hike we took of the location. If you have the
firefox browser, I highly recommend clicking on
http://osenergy.org/cc/Dec-19-2007-Hike-presentation/ccexploration.xul
to view the presentation.
The
Earth-Day-2008-Hike/
directory shows our last real world hike; you may click on the
photos to view that hike.
I just added
NEW/ today,
and it has the most important information you will need:
The
Campus
Connector-Layout.pdf shows the MPO proof of concept map that
we often used in earlier meetings, it's also in
maps/. At the December
2009 TC meeting, the Bicycle Board sought help from the City to
resolve the property line issues. A letter,
Campus
Connector Memo to Traffic Commission-FINAL.doc was presented
to the Traffic Commission. As a result, Ken Martis from the TC took
over researching the issue. Damien Davis put together property
information in the
Campus
Connector Properties.xls and
Campus
Connector-Layout.pdf file. The last thing we heard was from
the PSB shown in the
Ken-Martis-and-SGA-Mollohan-funding.doc
, in particular look at
http://www.thedaonline.com/news/sga-members-discuss-new-pedestrian-path-textbook-prices-in-dc-1.1608594
. That was last September, 2010. We haven't heard anything
since. Personally, I would like to be brought up to speed about
whether Ken ever resolved the property issue, and whether he is
still pursuing funding.
Make sure to keep the Bicycle Board in the loop! Thanks for doing
this.
