The meeting last night with Damien, Bill A, Mark Wise, Colin, Ella (MRTC), and a couple of Colin's MTB friends went quite well. We've decided to pursue two projects:
1) Skills park for young riders - Colin & Mark will look at BOPARC/Positive Spin space as an option and pursue funding from Specialized
2) Connecting White Park with the Mon River trail by improving & extending the trail section from White Park trails with switchbacks down to Don Knotts Blvd at the intersection in front of Med Express/Sargasso. We are going to submit a letter of intent Nov 15th for MAP-21 Transportation Alternatives money (minimum $50,000) and partner with the DOH to install a user-actuated push button signal on the east side of Don Knotts to stop traffic on Don Knotts. Final proposal has to go in Feb 15, 2013.
Further, Bill Austin is going to have the new MPO employee create an up to date map of all formal/informal off-road trails in the Morgantown area based on existing maps that Ella, Greg Good, Nick, and others have and by hosting discussions with MTB riders. We hope to use this mapping & project #2, above, to apply for a much larger grant in early 2014 to do some building to connect all trails, potentially all the way out to Coopers!
Some great potential for those that love mountain biking and hiking/trail running.
Colin, Damien, or Bill A could describe some of this activity if they'll be in attendance at the BB meeting. Is it scheduled for Thurs, Nov 1? I may be able to sneak out to attend and provide this update.

Bicycle Board Members,
Please find attached a draft monthly report to the Traffic Commission and a draft agenda for next week's BB meeting. Please review these documents and give me your concurrence or your recommendations for changes.
One item in the report to TC is that the City Manager is planning to review Bicycle Plan progress at the November 27 City Council Committee of the Whole. Do you think we should attend?
In the agenda, I've allocated 75 minutes to topic #7 which is for leaders to get help from the BB on the projects that we listed on the flip charts at the last two meetings. To proceed on topic #7 in an orderly fashion, if you're one of the leaders that wants to talk with the BB about your project, please let me know by Monday how much time you want and the desired outcome. I will then issue a revised agenda with topic #7 divided up to give each of you a defined slot.
You'll also notice that topic #6 is selection of new BB members. We have 5 vacancies: 1 City; 2 Greater Morgantown; 1 WVU Cycling; 1 Youth Commission. It would be nice if all candidates for membership attended the meeting.
