That is probably the steepest road in Morgantown and awfully narrow. Not all that long, but steep.
So when would cyclists use it? Jones is 1-way, down, or is the end of Jones 2-way now w/ that big Apt complex and parking lot there? Just want to keep us from having an "oh-shit" moment...

I know that place and it is really steep, as steep as any place in town and will be a challenge to build steps. A ramp would be great, still a tough push up.

Sorry, now photos are attached.
Bike Board Members,
What's the best design for steps with a bike ramp to enable cyclists to push their bikes up?
The developer of the new condominiums on the uphill side of Jones Av. between First St. and Overhill St. wants to close First St. between Jones and the condos. The developer said he would upgrade the steps there. (See attached photo.)
Last night, the Traffic Commission approved. I suggested that the developer also install a bike ramp adjacent to the steps to facilitate cyclists walking their bikes up the steps. A search of google images for "steps with bicycle ramp" reveals many interesting designs. If any strike you as being particularly worth recommending, please reply with the link to the image, e.g. steps with wheel ramps manningham st parkville.JPGhttp://www.google.com/imgres?q=steps+with+bicycle+ramp&hl=en&gbv=2&biw=1280&bih=657&tbm=isch&tbnid=u60BXii9OHirNM:&imgrefurl=http://www.bicyclenetwork.com.au/general/bike-futures/91988/&docid=FHuBWQCjJIWwBM&imgurl=http://www.bicyclenetwork.com.au/media/vanilla/steps%252520with%252520wheel%252520ramps%252520manningham%252520st%252520parkville.JPG&w=362&h=271&ei=aS7aT8OIHIGg9QSY_7HJAw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=644&vpy=237&dur=4090&hovh=194&hovw=260&tx=130&ty=214&sig=105649846092172636070&page=2&tbnh=144&tbnw=173&start=18&ndsp=22&ved=1t:429,r:19,s:18,i:191 and a short explanation of why you think it's a good design, e.g. "the bicycle can be rolled onto the ramp without lifting it; there are ramps on both sides of the steps making it easy for righties as well as lefties; the ramps are narrow enough and bounded by a wall to discourage cyclists from attempting to ride down them; there's a hand rail up the middle of the steps to make it easier for both pedestrians and bicyclists to haul themselves up as well as to stabilize them".
Your reply is not crucial. Just pointing the developer at the search results might be sufficient. I thought you might have some fun with this. If the BB favors a particular design, I'll pass that on to the developer.
