Upon seeing the title, my initial thoughts were about the sub-optimal physical endurance of the American population and how this is just exacerbated by the cutting of recess and physical education in schools coupled with the drastic decline in kids being able to walk or bike (safely) to school. Colleagues in health sciences and engineering and I recently published an article in the West Virginia Medical Journal (pp 12-16 http://www.wvsma.com/shared/content_objects/medicaljournals//mar_apr08mj_web... ) that discusses the role schools could play in mitigating some of this and the need for policy that promotes active transit.
