Oh lord, who wrote that DA piece? Shucks, invite her/him to come for a ride with us to see the tricks of the trade. No, it ain't easy...but it can be done. A hill isn't a barrier, just a challenge that can make us stronger.
I also go back to something I read about the Prime Minister of Bhutan, yes in the Himalayas...
----------------
For his part, Tobgay doesn’t see Bhutan’s landscape as an impediment to cycling. “In fact, our terrain in Bhutan is bicycle-friendly,” Tobgay told me. Westerners have a mawkish habit of discerning Buddhist parables in even the blandest Bhutanese policy pronouncements. Yet it is tempting to find a larger metaphor — for happiness, both personal and gross national — in the prime minister’s assessment of Bhutan’s cycling topography. “If it’s all flat, it’s no fun,” Tobgay said. “Here in Bhutan, there are ups and there are downs. Wherever there’s an up, there’s a down. Both parts are fun. In that sense, I think Bhutan is perfect for bicycling.”

Bhutan: A Higher State of BeingIn the vertiginous mountains of Bhutan, where happiness is akin to holiness, bicycling has become much more than a national pastime. It’s a spiritual journey. |

"When the spirits are low, when the day appears dark, when work becomes monotonous, when hope hardly seems worth having, just mount a bicycle and go out for a spin down the road, without thought on anything but the ride you are taking.” -Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

To all --
I want to extend my deepest thanks to Brian, Jeff, Christina, Jake, Traci, and Frank for their responses and substantial edits to my original draft. I couldn't have hoped for a better response to such an immediate request.
Please see the attached, revised draft. I cut it down about 100 words (I was aiming for 300 but called and was informed that they welcome up to 500 word letters) and expanded my list of the projects we have accomplished for cycling in Morgantown.
If you get a chance to read it over in the next couple hours I will likely send it to them this evening at 10pm.
Thanks again for your response!
