I am pretty sure everyone knows my stance about this rack. When I attended Suncrest Middle School I rode a bicycle that had thin tires so I would not have been happy with this gift from PS.
However, the reason why I correlated this subject with the Sarris Corral contest at the meeting this Thursday is because this could be a possible opportunity to photograph the toast rack onsite, not that I am advocating we go this route. This is a school that has not had bicycle parking in at least 50 years, so waiting a few more months to locate an appropriate rack would not necessarily be a bad approach. Ultimately, I think this should be Matt's choice, I could arrange to have him check the rack out at Positive Spin.
If he is fine with using this rack, we should make it happen.

I don't want to slow things up. Better to get one in place.
The donation idea was more useful if the rack was clearly inappropriate And we really needed a different one.

I recall there's some urgency in getting a rack installed so Matt can at least ride before he leaves Suncrest MS. The PS rack certainly isn't ideal but could be secured to the concreted with L-brackets. Even if left unsecured it's unlikely that anyone would be able to steal even one bike chained to the rack. Let's get this rack over there and if Jenny/others can raise money for a better one, then as Emily points out the PS could be replaced- an opportunity for yet another bike recognition news item/ceremony.

Hi All-
My impression from the meeting on Thursday was Matt was supposed to facilitate the delivery of the Positive Spin rack to Suncrest Middle since it was his initiative to begin with. Frank was going to pass on Matt/ Jack's (his father) phone number to follow up with him.
It sounds like the PS rack is available and the Suncrest principal is OK with locating the rack there so we just need Matt to take the initiative. Then, if folks want to raise funds to get a more suitable rack installed later, it can be replaced.
Has anyone made headway on raising funds/ a plan for getting a different rack in place? If not, I'd suggest connecting Matt/ Jack with Damien to arrange delivery of the PS rack.

It was my Alma Mater, afterall, the one where I was not allowed to park my bicycle. Matt's victory is significant, emphasize that to Chelsea. However, I would like well designed racks to be installed because they encourage bicycle parking. Comb and toast racks really aren't suitable for a school environment. -Jonathan On 03/07/2013 07:33 PM, Andrew Pathfinder wrote: Choice number one. The Graber...yes Graber Mighty Mite 6 Bike Rack. This rack retails for $110 and could be anchored to the ground using a bracket or locked to a permanent fixture. Option number two: Dero MR 12 Rack. This rack is more substantial and would hold 12 bicycles and would be easier to bolt to the ground. Price would be $400. I would be interested to see if budget dollars could be used for this purpose and or would also be interested in helping put a citizen pool to get one of these racks installed at the school. There are other options but these two give a good idea of a basic and nicer version of the rack debate. Thanks, Andrew Andrew R.
