Attached is the letter that the WVDOH sent to the City retracting their approval of the Shared Lane Markings and Bicycles May Use Full Lane signs. I actually agree with their points on page 2 about the SLMs and BMUFL signs being redundant since as they point out, the law already provides us the same rights as vehicles but they miss the point that the current narrow lanes and low level of education discourage many people from bicycling. Recently, the League of American Bicyclists rated WV the least bicycle friendly state in the US. I think the WVDOH is determined to keep it that way. They can't stifle our activities in all the E's though: Education, Encouragement, Enforcement, Engineering, Evaluation and Equality. We shall overcome! :-)
