Members of the Morgantown Bicycle Board et al,
I was observing a student teacher at Morgantown High School this morning. The topic was global warming.
When asked how many people walk to school, 2 out of the 18 students raised their hands. When asked "How many of you would like to be able to ride your bicycles to school?" six other students raised their hands. There is obvious interest in bicycle commuting to school among these MHS students.

PRO WALK/PRO BIKE 2008: "Transforming Communities" (registration opens May 10). September 2-5, 2008, Seattle, WA. http://www.bikewalk.org/conference.php
Upon seeing the title, my initial thoughts were about the sub-optimal physical endurance of the American population and how this is just exacerbated by the cutting of recess and physical education in schools coupled with the drastic decline in kids being able to walk or bike (safely) to school. Colleagues in health sciences and engineering and I recently published an article in the West Virginia Medical Journal (pp 12-16 http://www.wvsma.com/shared/content_objects/medicaljournals//mar_apr08mj_web... ) that discusses the role schools could play in mitigating some of this and the need for policy that promotes active transit.
