Gentlemen,
What provision is being made for bicyclists to drive from Cheat Lake to Morgantown during the closure and replacement of Ice's Ferry Bridge? According to this morning's Dominion Post, the detour route is I-68 from which bicycles are prohibited.

Bicycle Board members,
FYI, Bryan Radabaugh is the WVDOH District 4 Design Engineer. Based on my prior experience with him, I expect he will find a workable solution. I know there's been some discussion about this issue among local cyclists. I would like to ask you to put yourself in Bryan's shoes before you forward his or this message to anyone. I'd like to give him a chance to tell us what the solution is before tying him up.
Frank

Frank and others, I have a professional relationship through my work with Mr. Radabaugh. He's always been quite pleasant and helpful to work with. Not sure if it will benefit the situation, but might give another personal avenue to let him know that this could affect more than just Nick Hein. I've held back just a little from this conversation since my work was involved with this project a bit, but just wanted to let everyone know I interact with him from time to time. Later, ~Derek

I am sure it effects many cyclists. I have seen plenty of mountain bikers use the bridge to go to Coopers Rocks, and I have done the same thing. Last Spring I went on several road ride loops that involved the iron bridge.
The only alternatives to I-68 are to go to Pt. Marion, PA, cross the Cheat and make your way to 857, or go up Snake Hill, make your way to Blue Hole and cross the bridge (you would want a cross bicycle or mountain bike to take this route). Neither of these routes would be a satisfactory alternative for commuter cyclists.
It is notable to point out that at one time, part of I-68 was open to cyclists up to Coopers Rock.

Fred Shoukry is going to contact some other individuals that have contacted us about this situation and will contact Mr. Gmeindl as well prior to setting up a meeting to look at potential solutions to this problem.
