Frank, et al, Attached is information on purchase of the Street Smarts booklet that was handed out in the Road I course last weekend. Positive Spin will try to raise money to purchase a carton of the generic booklets this year. To get a customized version with WV state laws (3000-10000 copies) we might look into getting state funding through Safe Routes or Air quality or Alt Transportation grants. Granted this is probably something more appropriate for a statewide organization to take on.

Thanks for writing about Bicycling Street Smarts. If you need a sample copy of the generic booklet or any of the custom versions just let me know and I'll send them out. The most cost-effective way to purchase the generic version is in carton quantity (216 booklets per carton) for $1 per booklet. Pricing for bulk purchases is on our website at http://www.bikemaps.com/bss.htm and I'll repeat it here:

Shipping (also on the website) is an additional $12 for each carton of 216 booklets.

So the total with shipping for one or two cartons to WV is: 216 copies: $228 (216+12) 432 copies: $456 (432+24)

I've appended information about payment methods below. We generally ship within a day of your order and shipping via UPS ground takes 2 or 3 days to your location.

CUSTOM BOOKLETS The minimum we've established for a custom printing is 3,000 booklets, due to the higher cost per booklet for small quantities. Most custom printings have been 10,000 or more to bring the cost per copy down. I've enclosed more information below about custom versions.

STICKERS Another low-cost option is to print custom stickers to put on the covers of generic copies. This is a simple way to customize the cover without getting into the larger quantity and expense of a custom printing. If you are interested though I can forward information about an economical source of custom stickers and some sizes that work for Bicycling Street Smarts.

CUSTOM BOOKLETS -- MORE INFO & PRICING Printer prices have gone up repeatedly since I created this pricing, so I need to get new printer quotes soon and will have to update this pricing, which may increase by 5-10%, but I think the information below will give you the general idea. Should you move in the direction of a custom version and you have specific quantities in mind I can give you a firm quote.

The pricing below includes all customization, using custom text and graphics that you provide (similar to the AZ, FL, ID, and OH booklets), as well as proofing, printing, and press supervision. I've shown a rough estimate of shipping to a single location; actual shipping may vary -- if you have some specific quantities in mind I can get shipping quotes. The $200 charge for a first-time customization does not apply to exact reprints but may apply to future editions if further changes are made. If you want only a custom cover the $200 customization fee will be waived.

As you can see, the price per booklet drops significantly as the total quantity goes up - this is due to the nature and costs of the offset printing process. The price per copy continues to drop with increased quantity, e.g. to around 0.35 per copy for 100,000 copies. I can quote any other quantities that you'd like to consider, with a 3,000 copy minimum for a custom version. Delivery is approximately 5 to 7 weeks after the customizations have been finalized and approved by you or by the purchasing agency.

Sirs, I've just completed the League of American Bicyclists' class in bike safety "Road I" and intend to continue on to get my league instructor certification. I'll be teaching through our community bike shop "Positive Spin" in Morgantown WV, where we also intend to begin Safe Routes classes in the local schools.
