Good evening, A few days ago I was talking to Kristen Dieffenbach (professor of Phy Ed instruction at WVU and CycleAmerica coach) about gradeschool bike safety education in European cities. Her eye's lit up and she started talking about a program at the grade school she attended in Cedarburg, WI - "Safety Town". It is a parking lot with streets painted on it and temporary buildings and traffic signs/lights. I found more info on it at this link: http://www.cedarburgpolice.com/Safety%20Town.htm
The picture shows pre-K kids on 4-wheel pedal cars, I assume you could ride bikes there just as well. Kristen said the crossing guard position was popular with the kids, and they took it seriously and did a good job.
Thought this might be a practical possibility here in Morgantown. In fact we've done this indoors with signs owned by Fun Factory. Nick
