Frank, A good friend of mine and frequent road cyclist, Eric has been concerned and taking some action over the last few years concerning Rt. 705's lack of being bicycle friendly. After seeing his email and being impressed that he's being proactive, I've discussed with him about attending the Bike Board meetings, being copied on one of our lists so he's more aware of what we're working on, and eventually considering becoming a member of the Bike Board. I told him that the current bike plan does have recommendations to include Bike Lanes on 705 and Mon Blvd, with several other improvements around town. Eric is an intelligent, motivated, and fun person who I'd love to see involved with more of our decision-making, if he chooses, and I wanted to try to minimize multiple different emails/proposals/requests to the WVDOH on our individual views. We obviously don't all think the same and often with cycling there are many options. I just thought it would be great to have our discussions here locally, come to consensus, and make sure we're not presenting too many differing opinions at the state level to minimize confusion. On the other hand, do you think the DOH handles this well and can differentiate and organize between citizen, Bike Board, or Traffic Commission recommendations and decide what's best for Morgantown?
Let me know if I should or could: include him on our Bike Board email list Different email list? Present him with a link for the Bicycle Plan Consider him for a Bike Board position (if there are any open soon) Other ideas? Thanks, ~Derek
