Dear Frank,
Congratulations! The League of American Bicyclists has decided to designate Morgantown as a Bicycle Friendly Community at the Bronze level. This decision involved careful review of your application and consultation with local cyclists.
As you know, this award is presented only to communities with remarkable commitments to bicycling. You should be very proud of this accomplishment. Please share this with your partners in the city and advocacy community. The League will be publicizing this nationally Monday, May 14th to coincide with National Bike to Work Week. We look to working with you to help promote this accomplishment and will be sending you a template for a local press release next week. We encourage you to create your own for local & regional media. Please hold your announcement of the award until May 14th.
You will also be receiving an award certificate, BFC road sign and feedback on what you can do to make Morgantown more bicycle-friendly in the next two weeks.
Your designation will be due for renewal in February 2016. At that point your community will be reevaluated so we urge you to make as many improvements as possible in the meantime! Of course, if you wish to renew sooner than that please do. We look forward to seeing the community’s progress.
If you would like to do an award ceremony, please let us know. We would love to work together to promote this great achievement. Also, we would like to promote the community on our website. We are asking you to provide a few new photographs that we can use to produce your community profile page onwww.bicyclefriendlycommunity.org. Please email those to nicole@bikeleague.org
Once again, accept our congratulations on your tremendous efforts to create a truly Bicycle Friendly Community.
Sincerely,
Bill Nesper VP, Programs League of American Bicyclists P: 202-822-1333 bill@bikeleague.org

Traci,
Thank you very much!
Concerning the press release, LAB's Bill Nesper said he'd send us a press release template this week. I'll send it on to you as soon as I get it.
Concerning the photos and community profile, Derek has communicated to me that he "may" want to work on this and has contacted LAB to investigate exactly what this entails. I'll forward his message to you. Hopefully, you and he can work together to make this happen.
Thank you for your generosity!
Frank

Again, great work to the BB! I hesitate to lead anything as I'm not a BB member but will offer leadership from the Pedestrian Safety Board to partner in helping secure money!!! I have a rich uncle. I believe partnering to secure federal money to redesign corridors identified as dangerous from crash data will be beneficial for all parties - and the most likely to be accomplished. Rock on! Great day to ride - and join me in the National Bike Challenge - http://www.endomondo.com/campaign/national Christiaan

To All BB Members,
From Frank's April 28th email, he expressed the need to complete 5 items
below in order to prepare for our Bicycle Friendly Community Award. *Traci Liebig and I have agreed to tackle the Community Profile in Item #3*. However, my piece will be to get some photos for that profile. This will be your chance to build your 'reputation' as you'll go on the LAB's BFC website! :) As Traci pointed out, here's a link to what we'll need to create for Morgantown. http://www.bikeleague.org/programs/bicyclefriendlyamerica/communities/bfc_ba...
*1. I'm asking for at least 3 Bike Board members to volunteer for a photo shoot at one to three locations around Morgantown. *Will likely take 1-2 hours (by bike hopefully).*
2. Then, I need those volunteers to fill out this Doodle poll, so we can schedule a time before Wednesday next week. * http://www.doodle.com/rs5zsnf68bfm2v2r * 3. Last, I need BB members to recommend 3 locations they'd like to see us take photos at for this community profile. I can pick them, but I'd like input.
4. Can someone else recommend a backup camera? I have a good one from work, but if it's being used I won't be able to get it, so we should have a backup.
*Purpose of this is to obtain 3 photos of cyclists in Morgantown at key locations that show we're a Bicycle Friendly community. We need at least one photo showing several cyclists at one location. Would be nice to have 2 or 3 photos with cyclist in them depending on folks availability. I've got a nice work camera available for use, assuming it's not out for work.
*If you plan on helping out, please volunteer and fill out the Doodle poll ASAP, so we can coordinate and plan according to weather. Thanks, ~Derek ** *

All - It was a pleasure attending the meeting last night and being appointed as ex-officio member. I look forward to working with everyone! I'd be happy to be involved with the photo shoot (#1) & have filled out the doodle poll (#2). #3-Would it be nice to have 1) a recreational photo (w/performance riders, in conjunction w/Spring Spectacular on Sunday) on trail &/or on road, 2) a recreational photo with a family of riders (though I don't have a family in mind) or a bunch of children riding (Nick-anything Positive Spin could round up in a hurry?), and 3) a transportation photo (on Monday) on road? What about the gent that rides a hand-cycle (pardon if I don't know the term) - what a great inclusive photo that would be! I don't know him, though. #4-I'll volunteer my basic point-and-shoot camera if needed Ride on! Christiaan

To All BB Members,
From Frank's April 28th email, he expressed the need to complete 5 items below in order to prepare for our Bicycle Friendly Community Award. Traci Liebig and I have agreed to tackle the Community Profile in Item #3. 1. I'm asking for at least 3 Bike Board members to volunteer for a photo shoot at one to three locations around Morgantown. Will likely take 1-2 hours (by bike hopefully).
2. Then, I need those volunteers to fill out this Doodle poll, so we can schedule a time before Wednesday next week. http://www.doodle.com/rs5zsnf68bfm2v2r
3. Last, I need BB members to recommend 3 locations they'd like to see us take photos at for this community profile. I can pick them, but I'd like input.
4. Can someone else recommend a backup camera? I have a good one from work, but if it's being used I won't be able to get it, so we should have a backup.
Purpose of this is to obtain 3 photos of cyclists in Morgantown at key locations that show we're a Bicycle Friendly community. We need at least one photo showing several cyclists at one location. Would be nice to have 2 or 3 photos with cyclist in them depending on folks availability. I've got a nice work camera available for use, assuming it's not out for work.
If you plan on helping out, please volunteer and fill out the Doodle poll ASAP, so we can coordinate and plan according to weather. Thanks, ~Derek

So, we've earned a celebration of LAB's recognizing us as a BFC. I'll bring the Kool Aid.
Then, we need to: 1. Create a press release. 2. Decide if we want to do an award ceremony and if so, plan it. 3. Get/make photos and draft a community profile for www.bicyclefriendlycommunity.org . 4. Review LAB feedback and update the Bicycle Plan. 5. Get money to implement the Plan.
PLEASE REPLY-TO-ALL AND WRITE YOUR NAME ABOVE BESIDE THOSE ITEMS WHOSE ACCOMPLISHMENT YOU WILL LEAD.

BB Members, I'm *planning on taking some photos at the Spring Spectacular* in the morning for our BFC community profile. *Christiaan* offered great location recommendations and to help with this shoot on Monday. *Chet* offered a backup camera and some of his time. *Chip* suggested that we shoot something at the multi-modal facility Mountaineer Station; and *Cate*posted on the MonBikeClub Google group that we shoot one of the courthouse rides.
Outside of those listed above, there was no other response. *We need at least two other riders* to help with a shoot at the multi-modal facility and perhaps one other location *on Monday during the day*.
Does anyone have or *know of a family of cyclists that may have a bike trailer with kid and would like to be involved*? My family may be able to do this, but we'd need someone else to take the picture, and I'd have to talk to them when they get home tomorrow..
~Derek
