Hello Everyone,
I am presenting next week on the truck traffic impacts on Route 7 through downtown. Do any of you take this route regularly and have a comment? Do you have any images or assessments that you would like mentioned? I have some data from cyclists on Brockway, but that is not the focus of this presentation. I do think it is important to mention however as I counted 4 cyclists during my last field survey. This is not a full impact study, but I want to reach out to you for accounts and occurrences that you have witnessed on this commuting route.
Thank you for your input and additions to this research.
Have a nice day.

Danielle - Who are you presenting to? This might help as people can shape their comments to fit the audience. Thanks and good luck

Danielle, Do you need us to present you with images and assessments before next week? I'm commuting on my bike today, and I could probably figure out a way to get you some images?! Do you need more than just pictures of trucks on that section of road? Let me know if I can help! Thanks, ~Derek

Danielle,
I'm not on the bicycle board anymore, but thankfully Frank hasn't removed me from the list serve.
Anyway, while I don't find that the trucks endanger my life directly, they do endanger my health. On a typical day (every weekday), the gravel trucks billow particulate into the air --big black clouds that you can taste. As I draw a breath (which one does strongly while cycling), I can feel my alveoli tighten. It's pretty unpleasant and I know that pedestrians, and to a lesser extent motorists, traveling downtown get a dose of the same pollutants daily.
Those of us who live close to Brockway/Rt 7 have to deal with the LOUD truck noise, diesel smell and the soot daily. Since particulate pollution is strongly associated with asthma and other respiratory problems, I would like very much if the city would request that these trucks travel via Greenbag Road instead. Greenbag Road is more industrial and less populated, whereas the Greenmont neighborhood is densely urban and populated.
Our downtown would be a lot more attractive without clouds of diesel soot blowing around five days a week starting at or before dawn.
Thanks Aira Burkhart
