Good afternoon, Don't know if anyone else saw this but Saturday's Dominion Post column by Jon Samsell was (in part) about the early history of bikes and bike merchants (~1900) in Morgantown, in particular the influence of bicycling in getting the first paved roads. (I wasn't able to find a link to it online. I saved the print article if anyone wants to see it.
Also this week WIRED had a headline article about using the gas tax (currently 18c/gal and hasn't been raised in 15 years) as a means to encourage less driving and subsidize more transportation alternatives. http://blog.wired.com/cars/2008/12/gargantum-gas-t.html
I'm leaving for WI tomorrow, but will be available by email. Thanks to everyone for making this a banner year for bicycling (and walking) advocacy and action.
Wishing you and your families all the blessed peace, joy and good health of the season - and a prosperous new year. Nick Hein
