Good news!
We have added 2 Tuesdays per month to our shop opening schedule on the
2nd and 4th week of each month.
Please note that currently these Tuesdays are dedicated openings for
volunteers only and are not for customers; a
no-sales/no-trades-ins/no-repairs policy will be strictly enforced.
However, donations will be received during this time. The reason for
this policy is that we presently require openings in which volunteers
can dedicate their time to repairing donated bicycles. …
[View More]However, this
policy may be revised in the future primarily due to WVU's Human Powered
Vehicle Competition Team class providing 2 hours a week time to the shop
throughout the semester, beginning this week. If we discover there is a
good supply of repaired bicycles, that would be motivation to change the
Tuesday policy.
Also, we now have enough repair stands to easily facilitate 10
volunteers at a time! Dan Emery fabricated 5 additional stands
utilizing a design by Kenny Rice. We tested them out this Saturday, and
we were impressed.
Here are the additional shop openings for Sept-Oct:
September 10 - 6-8pm
September 24 - 6-8pm
October 8 - 6-8pm
October 22 - 6-8pm

A reminder that the WVU human power vehicle challenge class will be at Spin from 2-4 PM. Hopefully they will be coming every Thursday to learn bike repair and help us get ready for the Christmas give-away.

Hi
Would you please update the listing for Positive Spin.
* Nick Hein is no longer in town so use my name as the contact person. Our phone number and web address remain the same.
* Please see that we are listed in the community partners (I did not see an entry)
* Please add our shop location in Marilla Park to the map (I did not see this either)
* Change the password for Positive Spin to EBrockway
* Finally, would you update our Mission to:
"We are an all volunteer organization. We have …
[View More]a complete bicycle shop where we recycle used bikes, fix bikes to donate to children in need, design and build wheeled vehicles and collect bikes to ship to cooperatives around the world."
Call or email me if you have questions.
Thank you

From Positive Spin, special thanks goes out to Dan Emery (in photo
below), Jen Previll, Will Ravenscroft, Colin Frosch, Mark Schuchardt,
Ethan Garrison and Jonathan Rosenbaum. We could not have done it
without everyone involved!

Yesterday afternoon Earl Schiffbauer stopped by Spin to inquire about continuing the collaboration between MTEC and Spin.
Earl uses bicycle repair as a method to teach mechanical skills to his students. In the past we have provided bicycles and parts and they have then donated the repaired bicycles to us.
They currently have 20-30 bicycles that were donated directly to them but will need some parts from us. The advantages of continuing this cooperation were so obvious to me that I …
[View More]readily agreed. So if we get lists of needed parts please try to find them or get the list to me and I will see what I can find.
Nathan & Andrew - might be a great chance to talk to MTEC students about the science of bicycling.

Hey Two Tyred People,
Anybody hear the radio story about bike polo? Positive Spin could have the world's first indoor bike polo field (imagine it as indoor winter cycling). Hear the story at:

The helmet order looks good but:
Please add 5 more model 38 helmets. I will pay for them because I want to advertize $12 skate board helmets for sale at the skate park as a way of getting people to come over for a visit.
