Maybe we could write a letter, write several letters, or approach the city and let them know we think they'd be making a mistake letting him go? Should we act?

At a city council meeting I attended in December, possibly every single neighborhood association (not familiar with all of them) president gave a glowing appraisal of the work Moore has done in his short tenure in Morgantown. They spoke of his proactive attitude and ability to get major things done in a short period (recycling was a big one) as well as his warm and responsive communication style.

I am in support as well. He has made progress with many entities often difficult to work with. A letter to the DP very quickly would be a nice idea. I can propose the idea to the Pedestrian Safety Board as well. Thank you Christiaan

In reference to the Jan 15 article, Moore eyes job in Texas, the City invested much time and money in a transparent professional process to hire a competent City Manager and we got one. Moore's performance on the job has been consistent with his superb credentials and prior experience. They spoke of his proactive attitude and ability to get major things done in a short period as well as his warm and responsive communication style. I don't think it's bad to write a letter to the editor. I think your letter is great if we just rework the last sentence to have more of a "we'd be really sad to see him go" vibe to it.

I think it is a wise move to not write a letter now. While the newspaper may have hinted at some Council disgruntlement with the Manager, there is no hard evidence that this is why he has applied at other places. It is important to remember that a City Manager's life is difficult. It's part of the job to deal with turnover on Council's. Dan Boroff's long tenure was very unusual. The last statistics I saw indicated that the average City Manager position turns over about every 5 years and much shorter tenures are not unusual. Mr. Moore may simply be taking a proactive approach in his search for different opportunities.
